Poached Pears with Cabernet Reduction

6 bosc pears, peeled (leave stem on)
2 large orange
1 bottle
1/2 c BBF Agave

1/4 c fresh orange juice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves
1 pinch allspice


  1. Slice the oranges crosswise in 1/4 inch thick slices and line bottom of large pot. Peel pears, leaving the stem on. Slice off bottom of pear so that it can sit flat on the orange slice
  2. Pour wine, agave, orange juice, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and bottoms of pears into blender and liquefy
  3. Pour wine mixture over pears and bring to boil and immediately reduce to simmer on medium heat. Depending on the ripeness of the pear, simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the pears are soft, but not mushy. Remove pears and oranges from pot and put in separate bowl, standing upright
  4. Simmer the wine mixture for about 20 minutes or until it is reduced by half. Let cool
  5. Serve on a plate by placing an orange slice on the bottom and placing pear upright on the orange slice. Spoon wine reduction over pear and serve. Great served warm or chilled
